Steady as we go
It’s been a month since the site went operational and we welcomed loads of positive comments; thanks for that.
It also has been a month in which I have put my all into the Team Sky project and moving forward we are! Things are starting to look really good. Besides working with Britain’s principal cycling authorities I now also have the company of my former Team CSC colleague and friend Carsten Jeppesen, he is our operations manager and helps out with all material issues.
Together with the British Cycling and Sky crew we are definitely starting to create a strong and tight silhouette for Team Sky. The interest in the project is massive, from within the peloton but also from the business world and general public. Journalists are triggering the curiosity of the cycling community and the media is giving us plenty of attention in every way possible. Although this new kid on the block hasn’t actually moved into the pro scene as yet, the name Team Sky is heard everywhere and it’s great fun for everyone working on the project ;-)
To put a proficient and skilful team together seems to be one of the easiest aspects of the job for me. After over twenty years in the peloton I can bank on an affable profile and there is little need to explain my outlook and disposition to most. That facilitates a lot. I actually find the administration and “paper-pushing” process the most time consuming and I would be lying if I said it doesn’t frustrate me at times. The hours I spend at the office are, softly put, lavish.
My physical activities have subsequently been narrowed down and limited to the odd short bike ride when weather and agenda allow. I’m scheduled to participate in the London to Paris Cycle Tour end of this month. I’m suppressing a mild panic when I think of it.... my knee has been playing up during the rides and I am not sure how I will go. Mid June I'm going to scout possible training camp locations in Spain for a few days. I am taking my bike down and intend on testing material and ride some of the routes. It should be a good form test (gulp).
Well my friends, that’s it for now. Time to answer some more mails and calls!
Talk soon
